Nvidia's net profit rose 628% as its Blackwell chip went into full production
On May 22, Nvidia announced its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025 as of April 28, with a revenue of $26.044 billion, up 262% year on year; Net profit was $14.881 billion, up 628% year on year.
Thanks to the shipment of the Hopper family of graphics processors, Nvidia's data center business reached another record, with revenue of $22.6 billion in the quarter, up 427% year-over-year and 34% sequentially.
On the earnings call, Nvidia revealed that the Blackwell chip has been fully put into production, and plans to ship in the second quarter of this year, increase production in the third quarter, and put into the data center in the fourth quarter. Nvidia believes Blackwell chips will generate significant revenue for the company this year. At the same time, Nvidia noted that demand for the GH200 and Blackwell far outstrips supply, and this situation is likely to continue into next year.
Looking ahead, Nvidia expects sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2025 to reach $28 billion, plus or minus 2 percent.
AMD raised its annual sales forecast for AI chips
On April 30, local time, AMD disclosed the first quarter of this year, the quarter AMD revenue of 5.473 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.2%, slightly higher than market expectations; Net income of $123 million, the sequential decline, mainly due to the decline in demand for games business.
In the data center business, AMD's AI-driven performance continued to shine, with revenue of $2.3 billion, an increase of 80%.
AMD said that due to the boom in artificial intelligence servers, AMD is seeing signs of improvement in AI demand for its cpus.
It is worth mentioning that the first quarter was the first full sales quarter after the launch of the MI300 AI accelerator, and AMD said that this AI chip is in short supply and in short supply, and has been adopted by more than 100 enterprises and artificial intelligence customers such as Microsoft, Meta and Oracle. As a result, AMD raised its annual sales forecast for MI300 AI accelerators to $4 billion from $3.5 billion at the beginning of the year.
AMD forecast second-quarter revenue of about $5.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million.
